Black Sand Poem

There are two types of people.

And two types of sand at the beach.

They both visit the same beach.

But have wildly different experiences.

What works for one person, may not the other.

They have different needs.

***

One type of person hates the black sand underfoot.

It burns the skin as they hurry to the safety of the cool tide.

An unwanted hindrance.

Annoying time limit.

White sand is much preferred.

An easy ground in comparison.

***

Another type loves the black sand.

They love being pushed to run to the tide.

It makes them feel like they can enjoy the water that much more.

Or their feet are already used to the heat.

A unique experience preferred to the white sand.

Boring and cold in comparison.

***

There is a time for black sand and a time for white.

I personally have grown exhausted by the black.

Constantly dancing in place to find relief.

Chasing a retreating wave.

You will find me at the white sand.

Until the water returns.

One response to “Black Sand Poem”

  1. The metaphor of black and white sand speaks volumes about how our personal journeys and challenges shape our perspectives and choices. I think it’s a great reminder that what may be an obstacle for one can be a source of joy for another. Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful piece—it resonates deeply, especially in these times when understanding and embracing our differences is more important than ever.
