The Benefits Of Leaving The House
Big surprise, turns out that your parents telling you to spend time outside as a kid were onto something.
With our current day and age, it’s incredibly easy to do everything from home. A person can work from home, order food to the house, and even access a wide variety of media from the comfort of the couch. Even movie theaters are becoming an underused part of the film industry. Why pay an exorbitant amount of money for a snack combo and ticket when you can get the same experience or even better from streaming and snacks from CVS right? It’s safer, more predictable, and in a lot of cases cheaper. In society predictability is valued. It’s comforting, soft, but above all a hidden trap.
There are two types of mental stimulation people need to thrive: internal and external. Internal from what people think to themselves and external being what they experience. It is in human nature to seek the familiar and that by itself is ok. It is when the familiar is all you surround yourself with is familiar, that is the problem. Essentially, you are cutting off the external stimulation with the familiar. Days become a loop. Life a cruel repeating pattern. Internal mental stimulation slows in response until the light goes out.
Humans need a different environment. Humans need the light. The brain does not work properly without either. Change brings inspiration and growth. So I would argue that maybe people should go see that expensive movie at the theater or at least go touch grass.

Nicole, what a thought-provoking post! I completely agree that stepping outside our comfort zones is essential for growth and maintaining our mental well-being. It’s so easy to fall into the routine of familiarity, but as you’ve highlighted, real inspiration comes from embracing change and seeking new experiences. Your reminder to ‘go touch grass’ is not just poetic but a necessary call to action in our increasingly digital world. Thanks for sharing this insightful reminder!
