Don’t Know How Poem
I don’t know how you do it.
Face each day anew.
You know what awaits you.
It stands ahead knowing that you will come.
Dark as a raincloud and just as ominous in spirit.
Conserving energy as you use your own.
***
How could you ever hope to win this battle of wills?
You continue to try to love while it hates and hates and hates.
The human spirit can only take so much and what you face is an aspect of the world.
No, you did nothing to deserve it.
Maybe that is what gives you power.
Standing in defiance of the worst because the sun lies at your back.
***
I don’t know how you do it but I don’t need you to answer.
A behemoth has already stood before me and they rarely give time for questions.
Forever lurking ahead and never behind.
No, I never deserve to face it but I must anyway.
So I collect the brightest objects I have.
Using the brightest dreams and fragments of reflection to channel the sun at my back.
