The Brick Wall Poem
It was laid brick by brick.
Wall by wall right in front of my face.
There before I even realized it was built.
Created in the dark.
Meant to block out the light.
The only wall that can build itself.
***
I am told to move forward and I try.
My forehead has met brick over and over again.
Until I feel concussed.
And until blood covers my eyes.
Yet still they demand progress.
The blood is not a sign of effort to them.
***
Now I cannot see and I fear the wall.
I do not know where it starts and ends.
What obstacles are meant to be overcome or accepted as is.
Which kind is supposed to help or hurt.
So I am left feeling blindly in the dark.
Rooted in place when all I need is some light from your side.
