Through the Walls Poem

I try to communicate with you.

My deepest needs expressed loudly.

I need help.

Help in a way only you can help me with.

I have tried every language that you might know.

Every language that I know.

Yet you cannot hear me.

***

It is like I am talking to you through walls.

Incoherent TV static from the next room over.

Parents talking in hushed tones on the other side of the house.

Maybe every fifth word makes its way to your ear.

Sneaking to your mind like a forgotten guest.

I just doubt you are straining your ears to hear what you can.

***

Instead, you shout commands.

Closing your ears and opening your mouth.

Confusing the order of operations.

Confusing me.

You lead me in circles through areas I have already traveled.

While I am stuck trying to shout to you through the walls.
