Road Fog Poem
I walk alone in the dark.
The world continues on.
Lit up in the red and white of taillights.
I feel the harsh heat and stench of cars I carefully pass behind.
I have to reach where I am going too.
I have a home as well.
***
My eyes fall to the road and I see a curious sight.
Perched on the sidewalk, I see down in the trough of the street a haze.
Swirling, dancing, obscuring the asphalt.
Car tires sink into the unknown and fog keeps out the light.
I wonder how they can be so confident.
Am I the only one that sees it?
***
I move to cross the road but hesitate on my isolated path.
It could be some kind of pollution harmful to breathe.
It could be a natural fog covering danger I do not know yet.
I will have to become as brave as the cars.
Cross the unknown as well.
For I have a home as well.
