Do Not Say Poem

Please do not say what I think you will.

Let my assumption of the worst be incorrect.

Fears left un reinforced to collapse like a house of cards.

My idea of a better future left intact.

Destructive patterns abandoned to the past.

Please protect my heart in the way only you can.

***

Please do not say that which is hateful.

My faith in humanity is already so fragile.

I desire to be strong but fear the pain I could feel instead.

Torn down in little pieces at a time.

Reduced like a tissue paper in a bored kid’s hands.

Please do not make me have to be strong.

***

Please say that you are there for me.

So I never have to be strong on my own.

I want to love you.

A vulnerability that I do not say to just anyone.

A desire that rarely passes through quiet lips.

Please say that you love me.
