Meteor Poem

I was looking for my sun.

A life giving source to warm me to the core.

Companionship during the waking hours.

A hint of you during my sleep.

Outlasting my existence by what feels like a millennium.

Dwarfing me and protecting me without shadow.

***

I saw your glow on the horizon.

Filled with hope.

A possible end of my search.

But you were never a sun.

You were a meteor streaking by.

That glow was never meant to last.

***

Instead, my existence was peppered with damage and doubt.

Fragments you left behind in trail.

Left to fall wherever they may be.

Wondering if I might never see my sun.

Eyes straying from the sky.

At least I might enjoy a temporary glow.
