It Rains Poem
Hide yourself away.
Sun taken away on the darkest of days.
Sequestered inside where you still have something left.
At least you are dry while everything else drowns.
Shelter you hope will remain.
***
Lights strung up like the last in the world.
Shadows around the corner where water swirls.
Trying to stay warm when the world is not.
Mug between palms like your only paddle.
Comfort you use to navigate.
***
Stay inside, do not leave.
You would return soaked.
A state you cannot fix immediately.
Stripping everything else from your being to wring it dry.
A slow recovery.
***
I know you cannot stay forever.
The rising water demands movement.
Pounding on the roof like little softly knocking fists.
Stasis would mean death.
While the water is still low however, I pray you find comfort in the sound of the rain.
