Look At Me Poem

Why won’t you look at me?

You see straight through me.

A ghost in your life and treated as such.

Pretending that it might fade away.

Too terrifying to even show recognition of.

Unwanted and uncared for.

***

Why won’t you look at me?

I need you more than ever.

A support in my life that I desperately need.

Most people are too proud to beg but I am not.

You can help take the pain away.

But still, you do not hear me.

***

Why won’t you look at me?

I have learned to operate without you.

Not only for myself but for you.

No longer a burden in your eyes.

All so you might be proud instead.

But it has never been about that for you.

***

Why can’t I look at you?

I learned from experience since it never got me anywhere.

My voice was never heard so I stopped expecting it to work.

Heart was broken too many times.

If you want my attention, you might have to scream a little louder to get it.

I gave up trying.
