Double Blind Poem
I wish I could peek.
See what is beyond the blindfold.
But what good would that be?
I may be my right eye but you are my left.
And for you it is the same but opposite sides.
Seeing with one eye never sees the whole picture.
***
We are double blind you and I.
Wishing we could see beyond the curtain.
That would feel safer.
Instead I am constantly worried that you secretly have a knife.
Or concerned that in the dark I might accidentally offer a blade instead of a flower.
Forced to wait for action to come to us instead of taken.
***
It is better to see without eyes in a double blind situation.
Calls that light up the dark instead.
Voices compensating for the sharp edged trust.
At least then we might know the general location of obstacles.
Ready to brace for better or for worse.
Ready to make the best of having each others eyes.
***
Would you trust me in a double blind situation?
The fear that you might not scares me worse than the dark.
I cannot live properly with one eye.
I need at least one more to see the entire picture.
There is so much I miss on my own.
The beauty in the world an overlooked detail.
