Hold Me Poem

Hold me when I cannot be my everything.

The missing piece to plug the hole in the dam.

The water always seems to rise no matter how many times I drain it.

You act as the single barrier between me and drowning.

Giving me enough time to race to higher ground.

Leaving behind all that I thought I needed but still alive.

***

Hold me when I can no longer stand it.

How the walls close in and lock me in place.

Refusing to let in a single ray of light.

You meet me there in the struggle and trap.

Opening the door for me just a crack.

I struggle still but at least I can now see the way out.

***

Hold me when I can no longer stand.

When my foundations crumble and the support pillars along with it.

Letting me take refuge in your sanctuary while homeless.

Helping me clean up the rubble and rebuild again.

A mirror image building of what you let me be.

Learning strength that is not my own but could be.
