The Artist And The Challenger Dream
There exists a world very much like our own but overrun with monsters. Ever horror and danger that the mind can come up with lurks in the wild. From giant animals to creatures capable of rending sanity from the mind entirely. These beasts are not unchecked entirely however. A group of people that have trained to fight them exist. Those brave enough or blessed with abilities beyond human limits.
A man travels with a woman called Susie. He goes by the title of The Artist. He carries the ability to instantly draw on any surface a picture of his own design and will it into being. As long as it had been encountered personally and he had the strength for it, the possibilities were endless. Sought for his ability, he wanders. Never in one place for very long and always introducing himself as a mercenary. Even Susie had not been with him for very long.
There was a man that always seemed to be able to find him no matter where he was. Maybe not even a man. He could appear to him in a locked building and disappear with just as little of a trace. He also refused to give a name but never attempted any harm. Every time he appeared, he would challenge the artist to a painting on traditional canvas without magic. Every time The Artist would win by at least a small margin. Over and over again the nameless challenger would lose only to reappear as enthusiastic as ever. Leaving a small reward or cryptic tail as a reward.
There was a puzzle piece missing. Some bigger plot beyond realization of The Artist. A history he did not know. But what could it be?
