Reaching Out Poem

I will continue to reach out.

When the difficulty of life is too extreme.

When I need more than an imaginary listener.

When the grey clouds stick around for far too long.

When my mind is going too fast to slow down on it’s own.

I will continue to reach out until I fear they will not reach back.

***

Avoiding me so they do not have to deal with me reaching out.

A burden now instead of a friendship.

Dealing with their own issues and unable to contain my own.

A cup overflowing.

Scalding hot when it used to be lukewarm.

But I will continue to reach out to the others.

***

I will continue to reach out.

The fire still burns bright in me.

A will and desperate scramble for survival.

Driving me forward even if all others were to pull away.

As long as I have that fire propelling me onward I will survive.

I will continue to reach out.

***

I will continue to reach out even when I feel like pulling away.

Secluding myself away in a hidden place.

Mentally insulted but unable to recover.

Stuck in a state of repeating isolation.

My heart screams it’s needs aloud and I learn from my struggles.

I will continue to reach out.

***

I will continue to reach out even when it has passed.

Needs met and the storm passed.

For it is now my turn to reach back.

So they do not have to reach out first.

To be there for them since I know that my time will come again.

I will continue to reach out.
