Down With The Sickness?
I’ve recently come down with what is probably the flu and come to a strange realization. Life feels simpler when sick. I do not mean to say it is comfortable or pleasant. Illness is always the opposite of pleasant no matter what level it affects. The world simply shrinks down on itself.
When sick, a person has one goal and one goal only: feel better. A multitude of different life goals substituted out for one. There are no expectations of performance or perfection. A linear path where you meet challenges head on and all have solutions.
The other reason it could feel easier is because it is what I am used to. I have had more illnesses and medical issues in my life than I can easily list. When a person grows up with chronic problems, it becomes the familiar. Familiar feels easy even if it really is not. A repeating life pattern that we know how to tackle.
