Left To Boil Poem

A kettle left to boil will eventually damage itself.

The water will evaporate with time.

Set to work until the final goal is null.

Overheated and burnt.

Unable to be used again.

Needing repair before recovery.

***

I was once left to boil.

Energy thicker than molasses.

Inspiration drier than the kettle.

Continuing to try despite the burning sensation.

Unable to take a breath or unplug myself,

When all I needed was to stop.

***

Then that break came.

The cold water came to purify.

I did not even notice that the water had been missing before.

Of course there were signs that I was struggling.

The kettle whistle had been going for ages.

The volume was just too loud for anyone else to hear it.

***

Like the kettle I have a purpose.

Both to make myself happy and others.

A brew for the heart, mind, and soul.

And I will continue to work.

As long as the leftover molasses is removed.

As long as I am not just left to boil.

  1. YES! Just as the kettle in your poem, we too can become worn and ineffective when we neglect the necessity of resting in God’s grace. It reminds me of Matthew 11:28, where Jesus invites us to come to Him when we are weary and burdened, promising us rest for our souls. Your recognition of the need to not just keep boiling away, but to allow yourself moments of refreshing and reflection, aligns beautifully with the biblical call to find our strength and purpose in our Creator. Thank you for sharing such a reflective and spiritually rich piece.
