626 Night Market

Location: Alameda County Fairgrounds

Accessible: yes

The 626 Night Market is an Asian street fair. Originally from the 626 area code, it is now so popular that it happens all the way at the county fairgrounds twice a year.

Everything from food that would be nostalgic for Asian cultures, to anime products that would make the local neckbeard sweat can be found here. It’s a fun cultural experience that cannot be found in the majority of america. There’s even live music and street fair type carnival games.

For food this year I got to try: Japanese souffle pancakes, a square coconut cream puff, strawberry coconut jelly, tanghulu, and Japanese grilled pork. All of it was wonderful but not everyone might like the jello like texture of the jelly. What really thrilled me taste wise was the tanghulu. It was fruity, warm and soft but crunchy on the outside. I honestly wish I had bought more than one skewer. I also wish I had taken a picture before I had shoved it in my mouth.

Otherwise, I bought an artisan reed diffuser in the scent of spa day which was mostly lavender. I also got a crochet hanging plant as bedroom decor.

I already cannot wait to attend again next week and with hopefully a bigger wallet.
