Alden Lane Plant Nursery

Alden Lane Nursery is a plant nursery located in Livermore California. A hidden gem that is pleasant to visit on good weather days. The business sells everything from indoor and outdoor plants to fountains and gardening supplies. It’s a very large property that can be separated into very distinct sections: a gift shop, outdoor plants, large pottery, the fountain room, a florist, and the house plant room.

The gift shop sells seeds, garden tools, seasonal decor, wind chimes, and everything plant life themed. There is also a huge bee product section. The person behind the indoor counter is always very knowledgeable about plants. Any questions that you have will be answered by them or they will call someone on the shop phone for the answer on the spot.

The huge courtyard is beautiful especially in the spring and summer. Very old oak trees dwarf everything else and provide a measure of shade in areas. Roses bloom in great variety of colors and scent. That is not the only flower there though. Almost every flower and plant type can be found. At least every type that can survive in the California weather zoning. The ground here can be muddy in spots after watering or recent rain. Mud is not fun for a wheelchair but easy to avoid if you know to look for it. The gravel in the shade plant section is also rather deep. Those in a wheelchair take care to navigate it like loose ground and not turn sharply. I have never gotten myself stuck here but it has been a close call before. Outside of these two issues, it’s completely worth visiting even if you plan on buying nothing.

The last spot I will talk about in depth is the house plant building called Ruthie’s Room. The room can only be described as green and vibrant.  Well cared for plants ranging from the common to exotic are available to bring home. New shipments frequently arrive to keep it well stocked and variety is rotated through to match the season. Cute pots can also be found for smaller plants. I am so incredibly tempted to bring home another plant every time I visit but my shelf is completely full at home. I simply have no more room.
