Eating Chicken Nugget Stars With Cougars February 19th
Perspective: first person
The dream starts out simple enough. I am with family at a plant nursery expo. My mother is looking for a certain type of pot and I’m bored. It’s OK though, I’m meeting with friends in a bit for a few hours. It is dark out but not quite dinner time yet. I’m in an almost event type type building that has almost garage building vibes. I’m interested in the plants but know I don’t have room for more at home. I leave with a fancy chocolate bar and a lollipop molded into a flower shape instead.
I am driven to a fast food place for dinner and meet up with my friends there. The glow of restaurant signs lights up and otherwise dark parking lot. Nothing else is visible around. I order star shaped chicken nuggets and mashed potatoes with southern gravy. The restaurant was both referred to as KFC and Carl’s Jr. I didn’t pick up on this reality slip. We get our food and go on foot (and wheelchair) to go to a nature park nearby to eat and talk. Family is left behind.
We take our food to picnic benches under a wooden gazebo. A river runs nearby with a field across. The sun is no longer up but there was just enough ambiant light to see such a lovely view. I begin to eat. The chicken nuggets taste good and I could chew them surprisingly well. Far better than I have been able to for years while awake. Basic conversation is passed around. There are three people other than me.
The meal is interrupted by me noticing two mountain lions in the field across the river. My friends notice but only with vague interest. I seem to be the only one who is concerned. As I watch the mountain lions get in the river and cross to our side in the dim light. I try to point this out but everyone else is still busy talking amongst themselves to listen. It’s only when the big cats reach the gazebo and crawl under the tables that their existence is suddenly important.
All of my friends scatter in different directions without regard for anyone else. I’m left alone and also run away as fast as possible.
I succeeded in ditching the wild animals and was left with the realization that I no longer had the rest of my dinner.
