Golden Gate Park Japanese Tea Garden

Accessible: slightly

A quaint little garden with a traditional tea house. Not that big of a place but has some scenic spots. They serve both food and drinks in an open air tea house. There’s also a gift shop with traditional ceramic ware among other things.

Both the tea and food available are super yummy. I ordered hojicha tea, tea house cookies, black sesame dango, a lemon bar, and a berry cheesecake bar. The tea was amazing even though I don’t really like green tea. I attempted to buy the same type for home later but I couldn’t do it justice. It was slightly grassy but not very. It tasted smokey rather than anything else. The dango was incredibly tasty and soft. I had zero issues chewing it even with my disability. Every else tasted high quality too. A very calming sit by the water with a warm drink. This is where the praise ends however.

The majority of the garden was incredibly inaccessible with a wheelchair. The gift shop was just as bad. That building is on a raised platform with no alterations for a ramp. I was hoping for at least a side or back entrance but was out of luck. My friend had to enter alone and report back the inside.

Overall great experience culturally but inaccessible other than the teahouse. Go for the food and drink but skip the rest if in a wheelchair.
